This Relic style ring features an ancient coin. The coin is from the ancient Thrace Apollonia Pontica region. Located on the southern Bulgarian Black Sea Coast. Apollonia Pontica is known today as the city of Sozopol. Located on the edge of the Greek world. this was a place referred to as “Apollonia Pontika.” literally “the place of Apollo on the Black Sea.”. This coin depicts the head of Medusa. a fearsome creature in Greek mythology believed to have the power to turn people to stone. Such coins were carried by sailors who believed that face would ward off evil and protect them on their travels.

Our Relic styles are handcrafted using traditional sandcasting techniques. The bezel surrounding this coin was formed from wax that was used to create a mold in sand. Molten gold was poured into this mold. resulting in the rich. one-of-a-kind texture you see.
